Coelba (Companhia de Eletricidade do Estado da Bahia) is a prominent power distribution company in Brazil, primarily serving the state of Bahia. It is a subsidiary of Neoenergia, which is majority-owned by the Spanish energy group Iberdrola. Coelba is the leading electricity distributor in the North-Northeast region of Brazil and ranks third nationally by customer count, providing electricity to over 6.2 million clients and distributing more than 21.2 TWh of energy annually.
Founded in 1960 and privatized in 1997, Coelba operates across 415 municipalities in Bahia, covering a vast area of approximately 563,000 km�. The company boasts an extensive infrastructure, including over 277,000 km of power lines, 3.6 million poles, and 337 substations. Coelba focuses on electricity distribution to residential, commercial, and industrial customers, while also engaging in energy commercialization and investing in network upgrades to enhance service reliability. Additionally, Coelba participates in sustainability initiatives, contributing to environmental projects in the region.
