Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC, known as KenGen, is the largest electricity generating company in East Africa, established in 1954. It provides over 65% of Kenya�s installed electricity capacity, totaling approximately 1,726 MW. KenGen focuses on clean and renewable energy sources, including geothermal, hydro, wind, and thermal power, making it a key player in the global geothermal energy sector.
The company operates under a public liability structure and is listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange. With around 2,516 employees, KenGen is dedicated to sustainable energy development. It actively develops and manages power plants and is expanding its capacity with ongoing projects aimed at increasing installed capacity to 721 MW by 2025. KenGen primarily supplies electricity to Kenya Power and Lighting Company, serving a wide range of customers across the country and extending its operations to regional markets like Ethiopia and Djibouti.
