Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) is the leading oil and gas exploration and production company in Oman, responsible for about 70% of the country's crude oil production and nearly all of its natural gas supply. Established in 1937, PDO operates across a concession area of approximately 90,000 square kilometers, which includes around 130 oil fields and 14 gas fields with over 8,000 active wells. The company is predominantly owned by the Omani government, with significant stakes held by Shell, TotalEnergies, and Partex.
PDO focuses on the exploration, development, and production of oil and natural gas resources. It is known for its enhanced oil recovery (EOR) techniques, which help maintain and increase output from mature fields. The company also invests in sustainable energy projects, such as the Miraah solar-steam initiative, which uses solar energy to support EOR processes. PDO plays a vital role in local economic development through its In-Country Value program, promoting local business participation and job opportunities for Omanis.
