Sonangol, or Sociedade Nacional de Combust�veis de Angola, E.P., is Angola's national oil company and one of Africa's largest enterprises. Established in 1976, it is responsible for the exploration, production, refining, transportation, and marketing of hydrocarbons in Angola. As the second largest oil producer in Africa, Sonangol has a production capacity of around 202,000 barrels per day and generated approximately US$10.9 billion in revenue in 2023.
The company operates across the entire oil and gas value chain, including upstream exploration and production, midstream transportation and storage, and downstream refining and marketing. Sonangol also engages in renewable energy projects, notably through a joint venture with Eni focused on solar energy development. With a workforce of about 12,000, Sonangol plays a crucial role in Angola's economy, contributing significantly to national revenues and economic development.
