Spectra Energy was a prominent North American energy company based in Houston, Texas, specializing in natural gas infrastructure and related services. Established in 2006 as a spin-off from Duke Energy, the company operated in three main segments: transmission and storage, distribution, and gathering and processing. It was publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange and became known for its extensive pipeline systems, including the Texas Eastern Pipeline, which transported natural gas from the Gulf of Mexico to the northeastern U.S.
The company provided essential services such as delivering natural gas to residential, commercial, and industrial customers, as well as collecting and processing natural gas from production sites. With a workforce of over 5,000 employees, Spectra Energy served a diverse customer base, including utilities and energy marketers across the U.S. and Canada. In 2017, Spectra Energy merged with Enbridge Inc., enhancing its position in the energy sector and continuing its operations under the Enbridge brand.
