Statoil, founded in 1972, was Norway's state-owned oil and gas company based in Stavanger. It played a vital role in managing and developing Norways petroleum resources and was a key player in the global energy sector. The company operated in about 25 countries and was a significant supplier of natural gas to Europe, as well as one of the largest crude oil sellers worldwide.
Statoil was involved in the exploration, development, production, and sale of oil and natural gas. It operated offshore fields like Gullfaks and Statfjord and owned a network of fuel stations across several countries, including Norway and Sweden. The company also engaged in petrochemical production through partnerships and provided support activities for oil and gas operations.
In 2018, Statoil rebranded as Equinor, reflecting its commitment to a broader energy strategy. The company emphasized environmental protection, safety, and community development in its operations, serving both industrial customers in the energy sector and retail consumers through its fuel stations.
